in the case you worry about them try to maintain contact (i assume convincing them to desert is out the table)
try making new friends, or find new hobbies where you can meet new people

I grew up in an abusive childhood with no mother and a father that raped me and shared me with his friends. My older brother died, leaving me alone. By the time the police finally arrested my father, I didn't know how to live in normal society. I ended up stripping at 14 and eventually began prostituting.
